Today we are delighted to welcome a new team member to SHIFT Communications’ executive team: the inimitable Chris Penn strode through the doors of our Boston HQ today as our new Vice President of Marketing Technologies.
I am sure most readers of this blog are familiar with Chris. He’s one of the early leaders in the Social Media Marketing era, having co-founded the groundbreaking PodCamp New Media Community Conference alongside Chris Brogan.
Chris has been featured for his leadership in new media and marketing in many books, in publications such as the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the New York Times, BusinessWeek and in US News & World Report, and, on television networks such as PBS, CNN, CNBC, Fox News, and ABC News. In 2012, Forbes Magazine recognized him as one of the Top 50 Most Influential People in Social Media and Digital Marketing.
Chris is also co-host of the Marketing Over Coffee marketing podcast and is an adjunct professor of Internet Marketing and the lead subject matter expert and professor of Advanced Social Media at the University of San Francisco. Lastly, Chris is also the author of Marketing White Belt: Basics for the Digital Marketer.
What’s he gonna do? Why does this make sense?
First, take a refresher look at the Earned Media Promotion post: in case you hadn’t realized it at the time, the approach described there represents a strategic imperative for our agency. And if you examine the graphic that describes our Earned Media Promotion model, you’ll note that the final piece of the puzzle is ANALYTICS. We need to be able to prove that our new way is the right way; that it is effective. Chris is a data wizard; he and I have talked quite a bit about ensuring that SHIFT has an industry-leading answer to clients’ ROI questions.
Among the other services Chris helps us offer: Integrated Marketing Strategy, Digital Marketing, SEO & PR Technology Audits, Email Marketing Campaigns and Digital Communications Strategy. (If you wanna get really excited, check out this video on Google Multi-Funnel Channels. Chris can do that stuff. Any responsible marketer who watches that video is going to insist, “Gimme some of that!”). Thus, helmed by Chris, we’ll be able to offer SHIFT clients more holistic Marketing services that have real, measurable value.
But that’s not all the news today!
Today we also debut our new logo and website!
Not sure if you knew it but those 5 dots in our old logo represented the gears of a stick shift (get it? shift?)… But in keeping with our belief that “everything’s integrated” — paid/earned/owned, account service + creative service, etc. — it felt right to integrate that sense of motion into the logo itself.
We are psyched about the website, too: from the branding to the text, it is a genuine reflection of our culture, outlook and client service. Be sure to check out the video. The site’s based on a WordPress engine so we envision it as more of a “working website” that will continue to evolve. In the hours ahead we’ll be updating our @SHIFTcomm, LinkedIn and Facebook pages with the new branding, as well.
New talent, new services, new look, and soon, more big news to share! Watch this space.
Meanwhile, feel free to say hi to Chris on Twitter and welcome him to the team!
